Question about GLIB 1.2.2

I was installing xmms and it asked me to install GLIB 1.2.2. I just wanted to know if this is safe (I don't want to crash my computer again). I'm guessing I can just get them off of the iso cd's. Also, what is the chance there is some kind of version of GLIB on my computer already? I'm using Mandrake 9.2. Thanks

you may only have the GLIB 2.2.x, wjich is not backwards-compatible with 1.2.x.
this btw is the core of GTK, which you may be able to find on the mandrake disks, as it is a part of gnome
