Things are doing things....
It did a lot of stuff that it said yes too, but this is the very last portion
checking for extra includes... no
checking for extra libs... no
checking for libz... configure: error: not found.
Possibly configure picks up an outdated version
installed by XFree86. Remove it from your system.
Check your installation and look into config.log
What do I do now?

Well, now we gotta check for libz ( type this into the konsole: ls /usr/lib | grep libz and see if you get any output) Mandrake does things different than other systems.
Now you know where the configure script is and how to invoke it. You will probably have to do something like:
./configure --prefix=/opt/kde
or wherever kde is installed. Sorry but I have to go to bed (I work nights into early morning) but the place you want to go is back out to the main forum index, then distrobutions, then Mandrake.
They will be able to help you more than I can since I do not run Mandrake and they will be more familiar with your system and what you will need ( plus they will be able to teach you how to find out what software is installed on your system and how to get more/update what you have with the supplied Mandrake tools).
Good luck.
