Unhappy Quake 3 Demo won't install

Hi, I've downloaded the quake 3 demo from the id software site :

From Konsole (running as root) I type ./

I get the error
kbuildsycoca running...
Reusing existing ksycoca
KWrited - Listening on Device /dev/pts/2
linux:/home/pockets/Downloads/Progs # ICE default IO error handler doing an exit(), pid = 6026, errno = 0

Also another Konsole windows flashes up for a second with 'Verifying Archive Integrity' and closes itself again.

Any idea what the problem is?

from what you gave us to go on I don't know what it is, but maybe look at the quake 3 demo linux installer help page. they would know best why it'd just crash like that.
