Qmail - install - TOUCH not working in /alias ...

Greetings:

As root on my RH7.2 installation, nothing happens when I "touch"
the recommended files in /var/qmail/alias, as described in
several install guides-howtos-etc.

Here's the dir permissions and whatnot:

drwxr-sr-x 3 alias qmail 1024 Feb 14 16:34 alias

I had chown'd the dir to root, attempted again, still no result.

Any insight would be much appreciated!

What are the date/times on the files before and after you do the touch? If the date/time change to the current date/time, touch is working fine.

My bad... should have mentioned that *no* files appeared at all.

...but check this out...

I touch "test" and it appears fine but, per the docs, I try
to touch ".qmail-postmaster" and no result. Dunno if that's
even a valid filename or not (beginning with a period.)

Hmmm.....
