Post Python & Linux

I'm getting ready to install Linux on a pc I have here but I have a few questions I need answering first.

1) Can Linux use Python for it's programming purposes?

2) What can Python be used for within Linux?

I am currently using windows 98 and I'm learning how ot program with python. I also spend alot of my time roaming around irc trying various scripts. I would also like to know in the linux version of Xchat irc client is there python scripting availability?

Most Linux distros come with Python so you should be fine on that front. As for what you can program in it - just about anything you want!! Haven't got a clue about the X IRC client...

cheers

Jamie...
