Hi there,

Welcome to LQ!!!

Two main reason for getting connection refused are:

1. Either the service is not running. Check if sshd is running on the target server. You have not mentioned the distribution otherwise I would have given you the command to check the status.

2. Or, your target server firewall is not allowing the connection on ssh port which is port 22.

In short you need to check the status of the service whether it is running or not. And you have to check whether the firewall on the target server is allowing connection on port 22.

You can experiment a bit by disabling firewall on the target server to check if it is a firewall issue.

In a terminal, the command ps -A | grep sshd will show whether the ssh daemon (the ssh server process to accept a connection) is running.

It should return something like this; in this case, the number is the process ID and sshd is the name of the process:

ps -A | grep sshd
 2520 ? 00:00:00 sshd
