Hello,

How exactly do you want to connect, and what do you exactly want to do? You could use VNC like you said you tried, or you could use ssh to access your files.

Cheers,

Josh

You can use putty to connect to an ssh or ftp server, then you can operate from a shell. You shouldn't need a desktop at all on a server.

sure you can but it's only half of the equation as putty is text only, you would need Xming in addition to putty to get any GUI, that is if you have Windows XP or newer.

A bit off topic but if you need access to the graphical desktop I would encourage you to try NX from No Machine. Performance is much better than VNC in my experience.
