Compiz on Toshiba M3
I found a review of a M3 "configured with a Pentium M 770 (2.13 Ghz), 1 GB of DDR2 memory, 14" SXGA+ screen, an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 Turbo Edition graphics card with 128 MB, a 60 GB 5400 RPM hard drive, a DVD/CD-RW combo optical drive, and an Intel 2915 802.11 a/b/g." If that's how yours is set up, you should be able to run Compiz with some, but not all, of the bells. My wife's notebook is pretty much on par with that and it has Compiz loaded and running fine, but I haven't attempted to set it up with as many features as our newer - and far more gutsy - main desktop. Try out what you want and just see if it flies. You can easily tune it down if you need to be de-selecting features. Or maybe bump up the memory. These days that's pretty cheap. Your GPU should be up to the task. You don't have to have a ripped gaming-grade graphics processor for Compiz. It taxes mainly CPU and RAM. Bump up to 2GB and I'm sure Compiz can be configured with as much eye candy as you want.
