pureftpd problem

I installed pureftpd and whenever i try to run it using pure-ftpd i get this message
9973 Unable to start a standalone server: Address already in use
please help

It's probably already running, or else you already have another ftp client installed. Try "ftp localhost" to see if you can connect.

Yeah..its working. I dont see any GUI or anything so i dont know how to configure it. Sorry, sounds like a stupid question.
