Pure unix?
Hello,
i have played around with both bsd/linux and over the years fell in love. ( weepy eyed ). However, just out of curiosity is there a standard unix binary that everyone builds there software off of? is there unix binary i can download and compile to play around with? thanks |
Unix actually costs money. You can purchase a license and 'play with it' though...
http://www.sco.com/products/unix/ Cool |
To what I'm aware, Unix is proprietary software... I think SCO, (let's not beat dead horses again ;) ) , has intellectual property of Unix's source code.

A dead horse? Do you mean repeat over and over the fact that Linux is absolutely not Unix and that SCO is simply attempting to spread FUD to scare the entire Linux community into giving them a ton of money?
Probably, don't worry, there will be no dead horses beaten, just liars. :D Cool |
thank you, both

Solaris is free and there is now a community project based on it: http://linux.slashdot.org/article.pl...18234&from=rss |
Yeah, Solaris is a 'real' Unix and has a free version :)
|
I'm thinking as well trying out different systems, just to explore and know a bit more how Operating Systems work and so on.
Is Solaris worth to try out? |
If you get a job on Sun hardware, it'll more than likely be running Solaris :)
