pure ftpd running - can't login

Hi all,

On Suse Linux10 I have installed Apache and pure_ftpd using YaSt in order to use for local testing.

Problem: logged into machine as root, get as far as the line that asks for 'Password' but then the cursor won't respond

Quote:

linux:~ # ftp localhost
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd ----------
220-You are user number 1 of 50 allowed.
220-Local time is now 17:22. Server port: 21.
220-IPv6 connections are also welcome on this server.
220 You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.
Name (localhost:root): root
331 User root OK. Password required
Password:
Using SmartFTP from a windows machine on the local network I get

Quote:

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
Clearly I'm missing something :study:
It is probably obvious, but I can't see it at the moment

Thanks

Hi,

You need to set permissions.

Did you read the docs? A 'cool solution' can be found here:
http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/11418.html

Its for the pro version of SuSe, but that doesent make any difference

Oh, and by the way: Dont ever login to your ftp as root. That is considered a major securityrisc.

Sincerely, Jørgen

Things seem so much better this morning!

All is working well - just a few more tweeks with permissions & it's there :)

Thanks again, Simon
