Puppy Linux latest version (or equivalent) of "wary" and "precise retro" versions?

I use Puppy Linux from time to time (which I mainly run off of jump drives), mainly these flavors:
* Wary Puppy 5.5
* Precise 5.7.1 retro
* Puppy Slacko 5.9.3 (which I believe came as Puppy Arcade)
also
* MacPup 5.5
* Puppy 5.2.8 Lucid

I haven't done any updating in some time (like 2014) but when I go to the download page
http://puppylinux.org/main/Download%...%20Release.htm
it looks as though it hasn't been updated in a couple of years.

Is Puppy Linux still being supported and updated? Where can I get the latest "precise retro" and "wary" (or equivalent)?

Any help would appreciated...

Nobody picked up Macpup after development quit.

This works for me also in the West Texas Desert. Maybe only you?
Puppy Linux is still being supported and updated. All you have to do is install the right version.

Right version is in the eye of the beholder. When it comes to Puppy Linux. I run AntiX persistent live pen drives instead of Puppy pendrives anymore.

Check out the sticky here https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/puppy-71/

A lot of those useful puppy links should still be good to use.

The thing with Puppy is that due to the way in which the majority of folks run it, updating is not a major concern.

For most Linux users, they're obsessed with keeping everything bang up to date. They're also as scared as hell of 'running as root'. But, when it comes to doing so, what are you afraid of really? Messing the system up, or losing your personal data? Here's what BarryK has to say about it:-

http://barryk.org/puppylinux/technical/root.htm

Because of the unique way in which Puppy works, you can run the LiveCD session without ever saving anything at all. Anything 'nasty' that may have gotten into your system during the session disappears into thin air at shut down.

Here's another 'take' on it:-

https://igurublog.wordpress.com/2010...fear-not-root/

If those older Pups still work for you, and do what you want, they'll continue to do so. Upgrading is purely a matter of personal taste. I run a kennel-full of Puppies, right from the newest XenialPup all the way back to Lucid and Racy (Wary on steroids, as it's known). They all have their own personalities, and they all have their particular uses for me.

A couple of our forum members are already developing Pups based on the most recent offering from Canonical; Artful Aardvark. Puppy development is very much alive and kicking. The most probable reason for the apparent non-development you've noticed is because round about the time that BarryK 'stepped down' from the helm, and handed over active Puppy development to the Woof-CE team, there was also a major re-shuffling of Puppy websites & domains. Puppylinux.org was the old, original 'home' site.....which has since been side-lined.

I've never yet heard of any Puppy user incurring major problems through running it.....because with the 'read-only' nature of the file-system (and its tiny footprint), replacing Pup is the work of a few moments (should it ever become necessary).

Mike.

puppylinux.com down?

Thanks everyone for your replies.

My next question is, what gives with puppylinux.com?
I am getting a 404 too for the whole site:

http://puppylinux.com/download
Not Found
The requested URL /download was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Are you using an anonymous proxy that is on a blacklist? I'm on PIA, and it works for me.

puppylinux.com down?

Not that I am aware of.
I haven't had this problem with any other Web sites.
I am using Chrome Version 61.0.3163.100 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Windows 10.
The only problem I have had with browsing lately is that Chrome seems to like to block certain Microsoft sites, but I just browse to them in IE or Edge.
But I get the 404 error for puppylinux.com no matter what browser I use...
