Puppy doesn'r seem to detect CD on boot up

Hi guys. New (very) to the Linux world. Have burnt the Puppy ISO to CD, on booting up an old Dell Latitude laptop (850 MHz Pentium, 256 Mb RAM)I get the message "Searching for Puppy files in computer disk drives ..." and it just hangs. I have also tried a Knoppix CD and I get "looking for CD in /dev/hdc" and that just hangs as well. I've successfully booted another laptop from the same Knoppix disc some time ago, but haven't tried Puppy on anything else. I'm not a particularly techie person, but it all suggests to me that it's not identifying the CD drive correctly. Any ideas?

I'll reply to my own question

Have successfully booted up from Zenwalk live CD so I will settle for that and not worry about the other issues.
