Puppy 301 doesn't find external mouse on Inspiron 2650

I have recently installed Puppy 3.01 on my main desktop computer and my old Inspiron 2650. It runs great on both EXCEPT when I connect an external mouse to the 2650, it will not detect it. The mice (I tried one optical and one mechanical) are both detected by Win3.1 and DSL on the same machine. I have tried everything I can think of in xorg.conf including replicating the file as it exists on my desktop. No luck. Still no external mouse, although double clicking any of the buttons will cause the touchpad to delay responding to subsequent touches.

Any help will be much appreciated as I would like to make Puppy my main distro on both machines.
