PSX Control through parallel port

Hi, I've been using Mandrake for 6 months now, first 9.2 and recently 10.0, I have a PSX pad working in windows, and I was wondering how could you enable support for my playstation pad in linux but I've googled a lot and found that in fact it is supported and also all the direct pad pro controllers are supported, snes, nes, turbografx, N64, but I've found the documentation available, very vague and definitely not for a dummy like me, so I tried looking for general joystick info, but again It wasn't for me..... One thing I discovered is that there is a kernel config utility that allows you to set settings so your box will start looking for the pad, and then you have to install the correct drivers for it.

Could anyone explain me how to get the PSX pad to work or any links with good information on how to do it (dummy style)?
