Unhappy PS2 mouse pointer problem Looks like a square box

I have installed Linux 9.0 on Asus mother board model : A7N266-VM of NVIDIA chipset Geforce 2,Processor AMD Athlon 1800+, RAM 128 MB,DDR Monitor 14" ( horizontal and Vertical frequencies set as per monitor manual), MOUSE type Ball Mouse( also tried Microsoft and other standadrd mouse)

I am facing problem of configuring mouse right from step one of installation, The mouse pointer looks like a square box of 1 inch size instead of looking normal mouse pointer, i have tried no of mouses including the Microsoft mouse for which the driver is also avialable in Linux but problem is not solved please rectify the problem/BUG.

Your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file should have some options like

#Option "sw_cursor"
#Option "hw_cursor"

Both are commented out in my config file, but XFree uses the hardware cursor option. I suggest uncommenting the "sw_cursor" line (i.e. remove the initial '#', while logged in as root).

Maybe the problem is with the NVIDIA driver, in which maybe you need to look for a newer driver. There seems to be a lot of NVIDIA FAQs on these forums.

If you can't even get started because of this, I'd try installing the latest NVIDIA driver. Again there is lot of advice in the forums on that.
