Programs are adding extra variables to path that dont exist

This is the first time Im having this problem.

Im using OpenSuse 12.3 and programs are adding extra variables to my file path which makes it not usable.

For example:

1. When I was trying to install Windows with a VM manager I pointed it to an ISO image:
but the program would automatically direct it to
because root is not an actual directory but instead / it doesnt work. With this program its ok because I can manually change it and it works without a problem.

2. This is my bigger problem. Im trying to use Qtwine. I cannot find the place to change the path. It automaticaly adds root to the path and of course it says my file doesnt exist.

What could be causing this? Is anyone else having this problem with OpenSuse 12.3? With Gentoo, Arch and earlier versions of OpenSuse I have never had this issue.

Well I figured out the wine trouble. It was my fault. I was messing with the drives to try and get a cd program to detect my cd and didn’t change things back.

The problem with virtmanager is still happening but is not very important.
