program gets hung up
running Ubuntu 8.04-while trying to run or install a program occasionally I get hung up.In windows you can get out by the ctl-alt-delete keys. What can I do in Linux? My only option is to pull the power plug.Any suggestions will be appreciated.

How are you trying to run a program? If you are using a cli a "ctrl+c" would work. If it is an app from the desktop that you clicked on, you could open a cli and "killall processname". I'm not sure if there is a graphical tool like task manager or not.

Don't pull the power plug! All that will do is cause you a lot of trouble. If you are lucky, the system will recover.

Have a look at this think, it is well documented and will work on any distro.

ctrl-alt-backspace will kill your X desktop in most cases. I have had the odd time when even this was locked up, but usually its a good option to try first.
