Proftpd Inetd

I'm trying to install PROFTPD on a RedHat 7.3 system. I have downloaded and installed the proftpd-1.2.6-1 and proftpd-inetd-1.2.6-1 rpms. When I try to ftp to my system I get:
ftp: connect: Connection refused

I have disabled ipchains and iptables. My inetd.conf contains the following line:
ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.proftpd

I think something is wrong with inetd or something. How can I check if inetd is running properly?

All feedback appreciated.

Do you have a file in your xinetd.d directory to support inetd

It should read somthing like this
service ftp
socket_type = stream
wait = no
user = root
server = /usr/sbin/in.proftpd
log_on_success += DURATION
disable = no

The name of the file is unimportant.
Also, is your proftp setup as inetd in /etc/proftpd.conf

ServerType inetd

Does the user/group exist that it will run as!

User nobody
Group nobody

I didn't had the file in xinetd.d. It is working now. Thankz.

Where can I find some info on how inetd and xinetd.d work so I don't have to make this mistake again?
