proftpd hangs

ok, i have been trying to get proftpd up and running for a couple of days. i'm doing something wrong. it hangs on passive mode and times out eventually. any ideas what might cause that in proftpd.conf ???

sorry this is going to be vague, but because you are behind a firewall/router, ftp connections have to be routed through using a method called passive connections, passive connections use passive ports, which have to be open/forwarded through your firewall/router

i dont use proftpd, so i cant help you with specifying passive ports, but this should give you some places to start
