procmail fallback
I tried to set up a way of eliminating spam from my email.

I use a pop box of the type, sometimes with another prefix like

I thought I had written rules to deal with this in fetchmail, however it didn't successfully invoke sendmail and fell back on procmail.

The mail was collected - some dumped into the right user accounts, but the rest has vanished.

It said using procmail -d %T

What will have happened to the missing email and can I retrieve it ?

If your .fetchmailrc said "procmail -d %T" then you explicitly didn't invole sendmail. Read "man fetchmail" for that. Using procmail as local delivery agent will work as good as sendmail if you don't fsck up the recipes.

If you can't find out from the fetchmail, procmail, sendmail, maillog or messages logfiles what's going on, it would be helpfull to post your fetchmail config here, just make sure you first scrub it for passwords.

Thanks for your reply.

I did specify sendmail - but the daemon failed, which is why procmail kicked in.

I have tracked down the lost email. It bundled them in one of the spool files - but not the one I set for sendmail to use (obviously I guess).

I have managed to sort out both problems and am up and running again.

Thanks once again

mails can be managed very easily using procmail man page . make a .forward file and execute procmail command on your mails . then make the required recipes in the .procmailrc file. ofcourse
you'll have to make a .procmailrc file first.
