Problems with X and Redhat 9
Well, I had everything running good... A first with me and linux. But anyways, it isn't so now. After the boot up, when about to login the screen goes blank like it's about to start X but then it just goes back to the text login. This will continue until I reboot.
So, I went in w/ linux rescue, changed /etc/inittab so my default runlevel is 3, and reboot. Everything comes up good to the login, run a startx and it fails (of course) with just one error saying the x server couldn't find the default font 'fixed' on unix/:7100 or something really close to that. As a side note, before this happened I was removing a partition that was a fat32 partition I had added to move files from windows to linux. I got all the files I needed off there and removed the partition, made another primary partition w/ Fdisk and also removed the line from /etc/fstab which mounted the fat32 partition. When I rebooted to load the new partition table is when this whole mess started. Any help is appreciated! Thanks, Marc |
can you list your /var/log/XFree.o.log?
in the meantime,try reconfiguring X using 'xf86config'. |
Well, it's fixed now. ran redhat-config-xfree86 and it cleared everything up. Thanks for the help. Although now a few new problems have arised... All the fluxbox menus were reset (fixed now) and only 1 workspace remains. Nothing that really bothers me though. :)
