problems with web server

I am able to view apache server by ip not by domain name. I need to know how to setup the domain name in the network administration tool in gnome desktop. I am not that comfortable with editing linux files yet. Can anyone help?

Is this a real domain you registered? If so, you need to first create and setup a DNS server to point your registrar to for your domain so it knows where to point a name to IP resolution..

If its just a test domain you've setup, simply add the hostname and IP to your /etc/hosts file with any editor your comfortable with..

Is the domain you own pointing to your server?

You need to change the dns for the domain to point to your server. Depending on who you registered the domain with the might be options in the web control pannel.

Like mentioned before, you need a DNS setup and have your registrar point your domain to the DNS server that then translates your Domain Name to an IP so the world has a way of knowing where your domain exists on the net.

Don't have a DNS server and or don't know how to build one? And are you using DHCP? Then look into using services like www.zoneedit.com and or www.dyndns.org for DNS services for your domain name.
