problems with users launching proggies....

I've created a few user accounts, but I've run into a problem. they can't launch certain programs correctly. ie: mozilla firebird pops up the profile creations dialog, but when I click finish nothing happens. also, when attempting to run openoffice via "soffice", my users get the openoffice installation wizard. How do I give my users the rights/permissions/whatever so that they can launch these programs which were installed and work fine under root ???

I can't really help you with it, but it seems you haven't done a systemwide install, but merely installed for the user root.
Maybe you could chmod all the openoffice files to a certain group, say root.users. Add all your users to that group, so they can run whatever you chmod'ed.
