problems with unzip

ive been having some interesting problems with unzip lately, everytime i unzip a file it will always say "error" and then list

file.* refused to overwrite
file.* refuesd to overwrite

something to that extent.

however in all of these cases the files unzipped perfectly fine, just it says there's an error when there really is not

also, now im trying to unzip scilab 3.0 and it says

scilab-3.0/examples/callsci/callsciJava: Not found in archive

the thing is that specific file is there and i checked that it was there and even redownloaded the file many times and still got the same error, whats going on with unzip??

what program are you using to "unzip?" Also, are you "unzipping" .zip's or .tar.gz or .tar.bz2?
