Problems with Python 2-3.3 during ./configure

hello... I am attempting to install python 2-.3.3, and am compiling from source.
After the extraction of the .tgz file, i enter the python directory and do ' ./configure ' ,
everything is smooth, except for the last few lines:
configure: creating ./config.status
config.status: creating Makefile.pre
config.status: creating Modules/Setup.config
config.status: error: cannot find input file: Modules/
Obviously, this stops me from installing. What can i do?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I can reccomend two things for you to do: Try using the next version down of python, it probably will not have that bug, and you still wont lose many features. Also, you could try downloading it again from a different source, or try doing it in a .rpm package if your distro supports it.
