Problems with new install

We want to be new to Linux and have been tryin to install from the CD that came with the Linux for Dummies addition 8. We have a AMD processor and a Biostar motherboard. This is a new build desktop PC and there is nothing on the hard drive. Or as we call it a naked hard drive. The problem we have run into is we keep getting asked to debug, and every time we do that and restart it keeps happening. Please help we really want away from windows but this is getting frustrating.

Is that after you've installed OS?

WHAT????

please do not use a "third person" and plural tense .

i take it English is NOT your native language
also the 8th edition has a very very very old and dead version of fedora -- (fedora 6 )
from the amazon site

Product Description

* Focusing on Fedora Core 6, this accessible guide shows newcomers how to create a full-featured Linux desktop setup that's comparable to a Windows system
* Substantially revised and updated with new material on setting up a wireless home network, recycling an old Windows computer as a Linux home-networking server, running Linux on a laptop, editing digital photos, managing and playing audio and video, using open source productivity software, and more
* The DVD features the full Fedora Core installation and Fedora Core CD ISOs; there's also a coupon for readers who prefer to get Fedora Core on CD-ROM
* A companion Web site provides installation options and information on other popular Linux distributions, including SuSE, Mandriva, Linspire, Knoppix, and Ubuntu
so what is it you are installing ???

fedora 6 ? IF that is what you are trying to install it has NOT been supported for over 4 years .
Also Fedora 14 is the current -- but fedora was NEVER designed with the "new" user in mined .

I would recommend the current Ubuntu
http://www.ubuntu.com/
or the current MintLinux
http://www.linuxmint.com/

The Linux distribution that came with the 8th edition of this book is Fedora Core 7, which is way outdated (current is Fedora 14) and therefore is not supported anymore.
I think it is so old that is doesn't support your new hardware, so I would go for a newer book, and of course a newer version of Linux.
