Problems with mozilla thunderbird 2

Hi again, I have been trying to download extra dictionaries for thunderbird 2. I saw an article about only being able to download extra dictionaries in root. I have followed every piece of advice from mozilla and other avenues - without success. I tried as user and root. Even though the download goes ahead - it doesn't arrive at thunderbird?! Is there anyone who has met this problem and solved it?
Look forward to a reply.

P.S. I haven't tried via the command console - wouldn't have a clue how to go about it?

Hi, I will try to help you.
From a browser like Firefox go to this mozilla site
Choose one dictionary you want to add to Thunderbird, for example the Swedish one. But don't left-click the 'install' link directly, rather right-click it and choose 'Save Link As...' to download and save it on your hard disk, to a directory of your choice.
You need not be root to do that.
Then as user login open Thunderbird, click the Tools item on the Menu bar, choose Add-ons. You should find there an 'Install' button to be able to install the dictionary extension from the directory where you saved it from Firefox.
Restart Thunderbird, and your dictionary should be available for spell checking. This method is for a per user installation.
Regards.

Re - Mozilla Thunderbird

Sorry for the late reply to your post. I would like to say thanks berbae for you help - it worked a treat. Tried to do it yesterday, but mozilla's website was down in the evening when I came home.

Thanks again.
