Problems with Linux Kernel Compilation

Hi Everyone

I am using "VMWARE Workstation" and running Debian Unstable on my virtual machine. I have compiled linux kernel version 2.6.28 on my virtual machine.

Everything seemed to be pretty ok during compilation but when i rebooted my machine at the end it did not boot and gave the following message:

VFS : Cannot open root device "sda1" or unknown-block(0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions:
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.

Thanking You
Best Regards

Hi

Thank You for your reply.

The file system being used is EXT3. I did not compile the file system.

Regards

Ok that could be your problem. What you will want to do first is recomplie everything but this time make sure that your filesystem says something like * next to it.
