Problems with (Konqueror and Nautilus) and Java

I tried viewing java applets in both Konq. and Nautilus, but neither will work. I look into Konq's preferences, and seen that java needed to be installed. So I installed it off my Mandrake discs. It installed perfectly fine, and when I looked into the preferences, they had auto-updated themselves. I try to view an applet, any applet, it says "Loading Java applet..." and stays there. I'm on a dial-up, so I gave it 20 minutes, and still the same thing. It is recognizing it as a applet, but I'm not getting anything more. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hello there scuzzman!!!

I dunno if it's a bug in Java or browsers (most likely in Java) but I was coding some applets last day and for some reason, the browser displayed "loading applet" and also stops there, just like yours. Minimizing and Restoring the Window browser made the applet run... Talking about odd stuff, lol.

You might also consider using a better browser as Firefox. It's very fast and the latest version is quite impressive. There's nothing wrong with Konq or Nautilus either, I just see them more like a file manager then an efficient browser: odd shortcuts, some pages renders strange and etc. But that's just my personal preference :)

i would be more than happy to use firefox
but remember: I'm on dialup, and dont have the 4 hours it would require to download both Firefox and the java plugin
I have Mozilla, but I still need the Plugin, and an hour I do not wish to wait if I can solve it with Konq
