Well, that's a very strange question that's being asked.
If all of those assumptions are correct, you should have never see the "Choose the installation media" question, since, at that point, anaconda would have been running from the DVD and the question would have been redundant. That question is, normally, only asked if you are running anaconda as a stand-alone program instead of a part of a complete installation package. I suspect that you failed to create a bootable DVD (step 1, above) or that you did not boot your system from the DVD (step 2). Note that burning an ISO image is a special task, and not the same thing as burning a DVD containing an ISO image file. |
Assuming you have a USB port to boot from and are willing to install via net see this-
( http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...a-load-711069/ ) If you have non-bootable usb port and a floppy drive-post again and I will tell you the "how-to". |
so... thanks both of you for answers linus72 PTrenholme IN BOTH THREADS
yea i do have bootable USB flopy isn't problem as well (just not installed in case) verification of burnt iso on dvd was successful dvd boots 1. via F8 boot menu 2. via setting 1st boot device in BIOS in other case (if not booting) how can i see fedora selection menu and after interf. lang setup keyboard setub. smthing loads after i'm clicking install or update fedora. i'll try to do something with net setup, or usb setup, and will keep this thread updated! Thanks allot! |
aslo i never had problems installing distros on my old pc. Fedora 8-9 Ubuntu Suse... but i just tryed to initial configs for system, after i continued working in WinXP
now i have strong expectancies to cross on Linux with my new rig |
OK, here's a (possible) easy work-around (assuming you've got a high speed internet connection). Download and burn the Fedora 10 LiveCD. (Which is only a CD image, so not to big a download.) Then boot the LiveCD. If that works, you should have Fedora 10 running from the CD. (If not, then F10 may not be compatible with your hardware.)
If, then, you get F10 running from the LiveCD, pick the "Install to HD" option from the menu. Once you've installed F10, reboot (to verify it works), get you Internet connection working, an run "yum update" to get your system current. (That's need because both the DVD and LiveCD ISO files are quite out of date.) Then just install the software you need from the Fedora repositories. (I'd also suggest that you add the rpm-fusion repositories to /etc/yum.repos.d/, but you may not need anything in those repositories - they contain, mostly, applications encumbered by proprietary licenses like, for example, the nVidia display drivers.) |
HI. so i did such thing:
I found this thread on fedora forum: HowTo Install Fedora 10 DVD from a 4GB USB stick From there i get about this tool: liveusb-creator As you u know i had i386 and x86_64 installation dvds. I did download both fedora netinstalls. i stopped on Fedora 10 x64, so i used Fedora-10-x86_64-netinst.iso liveusb-creator installed net iso on my usb drive in couple clicks. i booted from my already bootable usb. Choose "install from HDD". And here we go... it can see my USB drive. i choose it. And anacoda started !!!!!!!!! no visual interface, but dos like. But it's ok now. I can install Fedora on my pc. Only problem i've created two linux partitions: /swap ext3 1024mb and / ext3 19600mb (root) after clicking confirming selection it shows me message which says that i didn't creat SWAP partiton, and if i want to continue without it. Whats the problem ? :( And after i'll do my netinstall how can i use my DVD to load all repos soft programms ???? Will netinstall have KDE or GNOME ???? Or after install finishs, i've to reboot from DVD and click update system ? Quote:

i selected option "use free disk space"*
after anaconda formated hdd and should begun installation process IT SAID: "MISSING ISO 9660 IMAGE The installer has tried to mount image #1, but cannot find it on the hard drive. Please copy this image to the drive and click Retry. Click Exit to abort installation" Also ... when i'm choosing "use free space" will it use free space on my Windows drives (i saw it once in Suse installation" ??? I'm already lil bit frustrated of this situation!!!! :((((((((((((((((( |

only successfull installation was on VMware virt. machine, with same DVD iso Fedora 10 x64 no success with HDD or USB installs (already forgot about DVD install) for USB install i used only liveusb-creator, without deleting/replacing any files. also want to try download CD version of FC, and try to install it. any other suggestions ? I want to solve this problem, and arrange it like HowTo (will be translated in russian and georgian as well) |
You can try Billix from USB too...can you boot from USB?
What exactly is going wrong? I have a How-To" about booting some distro's from USB-Knoppix/Billix, etc. here- ( http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ewbies-715107/ ) Read it carefully... Both NetbootCD and Billix can install Fedora 10 via internet through the USB. Just read the "How-To" above ^ for Billix/NetbootCD. Billix-0.24 ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/billix/ ) NetbootCD-2.2 ( http://netbootcd.tuxfamily.org/ ) Remember to edit the whole Billix syslinux.cfg so it will boot from USB. ORIGINAL BILLIX SYSLINUX.CFG- Code:
DEFAULT 1 Code:
DEFAULT 1 KERNEL (/)linux24 initrd=(/)lenny.img display (/)boot.msg F2 (/)f2 So, boot into Billix-.0.24 or NetbootCD-2.2 and install Fedora 10 via internet. Did that work?? |

Hi i downloaded Billix, the version for USB i have extracted content of archive to my 4 gb flash drive. Edited Syslinux.cfg, with only difference... added x86_64 Fedora 10 mirrors Code:
LABEL 5 but now i can't boot from my flash. last couple boots i get "No system drive" before i get something like no boot , actually don't remember exactly. this is coz of i've already formated this flash (and the 2nd 8gb) hundred times, during this days , with linux problem. Windows Basic format : fat32 Acronis advanced format: delete pert => create part => primary => fat32 i dunno what i'm doing not correct as i mentioned in other posts, before i could boot from usb , NetBootCD (stucked on step which is described above) Even can't create boot usb liveusb-creator-3.6.3, process always ends with fail ; before it was O.K. |
billix-0.24.tar
shoould i run some of the .bat_s which are located in billix directory ? 1st-boot.bat dsl-base.bat dsl-vhd.bat dsl-windows.bat pendrive.bat ???? |
nothing...
fat32 formated shows me: Disk error Press any key to reboot ntfs formated shows NTLDR missing Press CTRL ALT DELETE to reboot i remember that very first times i had ntfs formated usb, and it booted, also liveusb-creator did its work. dunnooooooooo don't want to install Ubuntu (coz of main stream) but i've no choice. believe FC 11 will bring some changes |
Update:
can't "boot" fedora 10 LIVE x86_64, slipstreamed onto USB stick with liveusb-creator 3.6.3 GRUB menu loads, choosing BOOT or VERIFY AND BOOT booting begins three lines are booting (fedora starts booting with some loading lines white/blue) after DOS screen shows me my ethernet connections, like "100mb , full duplex, link ready" and on this step booting stops or stucks, display shows the same |
When you installed Netbootcd/Billix to your USB-did you install syslinux too?
"syslinux -s /dev/sdxx" where "xx" is your USB (sdf1/sde1/sdb1,etc) I am going to try both Billix/Netbootcd and try to install Fedora10 either to my vbox or my HD. The .bat files in Billix are to operate DSL through Qemu in Windows so you don't have to reboot. |
yesterday night i've tried install it via internet.
i've slipstreamed Fedora 10 x86_64 NetInstal on my 4gb USB stick booted from it and chose install via URL , entered path for install.img on some server AND INSTALLATION BEGUN (in text mode(dos mode whatever)). after reboot initial config started ...everything ok , but on the finish it asked me choose services for sys startup. i left everything by default and finished configuration . after rebut FEDORA STARTED buuuut in CONSOLE Mode (text), i gave command startx... but nothing .... error were showed " unable load initx, or missing initx " (smthing like this) have i had enable all services ??????? i dunno what services were there. i'm novice.. it was my first text setup, actually like Win Setup .. i thought it would be some like black screen and i should input commands |
linus
lets create normal Guide for Billix.... i saw only one billix review on utube, and some text review. real novice guide because when i reading ur or other how tos, it's like a lil mess for me.U know to many times copy paste copy paste copy paste . do u know word "tautology", so its bad. windows/linux guide for billix for couple distros like fedora/ubuntu Like: 1 download 2 extract to usb 3 edit config or boot menu or mirros 4 take syslinux from original disto image (i don't know for what do i need syslinux, i read that is booting config for distro) 5 place it on usb as well 6 make usb bootable (and what if i can press F8 during boot, and USB will boot, is it ok ?) 7 boot. i would like create vid for utube, like noob for noobs. with all credits and co-authors |
