Problems with install
ive been trying to install slackware linux 9 on my old machine... so far ive had alot of problems with getting it to read my cdrom,,,, so i had the idea of just installing the base linux packages by floppy,,, however i have not been able to find any documentation of how to make the A series disk sets,,, if anyone has an idea of how to make the disk sets or access my cdrom please let me know.
CD specks: TEAC SuperQuad 4X thanks Elohist |
Access CDROM.. hmmm...
With some of the old off the wall CDROMs you need to use a different Slackware boot disk that includes the kernel with the proper interface support for your CDROM. Are you using just the bare.i kernel? Bare.i will only work with IDE CDROM drives. Let me check yours and see what interface it uses. slight |
Ah Hah!
CDROM specs A quick check of the slackware site shows that the sbpcd.i boot disk is probably the best bet to get your CDROM working. This is an old school 40 pin non-ide interface that Teac and some other manufacturers were using way back in the day. good luck! slight |
Thanks sooooo much for looking that up for me,,, i guess its been sitting there under my nose the whole time and i must have skipped over that boot disk when i read it. however,,,,,,, where can i get it??? ive looked all over a couple of the ftp sites and not been able to find that boot disk..... i sent an email to slackware support so i hope they or someone here can help me.
thanks elohist |
Ahhh.... my apologies. Slack has changed the name of the boot disk from sbpcd.i to oldcd.i.
So just look for oldcd.i on any of the slackware mirrors and go to town. :) slight |
