problems with hdparm

hi anybody,

i've got a problem using hdparm. I want to shutdown my harddrive in a router running debian using hdparm. computer is running for months practically doing nothing. But whenever i shutdown the hardrive it comes back online. I guess it has something to do with the syslog. If anybody knows a way to do so... to permanently turn off the hardrive, i don't care if some of the syslog entries may get lost. it's a PII 350 with plenty ram.

thanks for your help

If you have all your logging log to a ram disk (or turn off all your logging) and turn off your swap it should stay off I would think. Make sure you have noatime as a parameter for the harddrive in /etc/fstab as well.

well, how do i redirect the logging to the ram, or turn it off , or even have it done only once a day. i really don't know
