You will need to provide more information to get the help you need.
What distro are you using? Are you using the Linpus that came pre-installed with some Acer Aspire One models? Or some other distro?
How do you connect to the internet? Wired? Wireless? Do you use a usb connected wired or wireless device?
Are you using cable internet? DSL? dialup? or something else?
What ethernet and wireless devices does your netbook use? And are the proper drivers loaded?

Everything was pre-installed - I have not added anything.
Connection to internet is wireless to an Orange router.
The wireless device within the netbook is the one that came pre-installed - I have not altered anything.
Assume proper drivers are loaded - been using netbook for more than two years and this has only happened once before.
The last time I fixed it, someone said to go to Terminal, which I did, enter a small "programme", hit the return, and it was fixed.
your help, or anyones help would be great.

try
Code:
history
at a shell-prompt, you might find your root-input in that list.

Did not think of that!!
Have now listed "root"history and found the previous "programme" which I have re-input and although their was a staement along the lines of "connection not found" - it has in fact appeared so all is well!!

Have cut and paste all Root history into a word doc and at least will know now what to do if it happens again.

Really appreciate your response and help.
