Cool problems with comporessed files

hi! im having problems when i try to unpack a .tar.gz file

what appears is:

gzip: stdin:not in gzip format

tar: child returned status 1

tar: error exit delayed from previous errors

can someone help me?

from the command line try

tar xzvf filename.tar.gz

try that already the result was the same

do a "file <filename.tar.gz>" (without the quotes ofcourse) to check the real file type. It could just be another file type.
