Problems with cfdisk
 

Running Red Hat 8. I have left some free space on my harddrive after the intall partitions, hoping to use cfdisk to create a new partition or two with the left over space.

I can install and run cfdisk with the util-linux.2.11 tar.gz. I can actually run cfdisk and see my partitions and my free space that I have left.

But, when I try to use the arrow keys, up down to change partition to choose the free space...they don't work. I can use the tab button to cycle through my options at the bottom, but none of the arrow keys work.

This happen to anyone else?

This wouldn't happen to be on a laptop or anything would it? Where the arrow keys are shared with other keys? If not, have you tried the arrow keys on the numpad, by turning numlock off or anything?

Just on a regular tower. I tried the numlock thing on and off, I tried every key from tab to spacebar to ctrl + key.

I am gonna be reinstalling anyway for a fresh try at the partitions...being new and all :).

Well there shouldn't be any reason for you to just reinstall, there are other alternatives to cfdisk. You could just fdisk as well, its not as user friendly but does the job.
But something then is definitely wrong with the program, especially if the arrow keys work in or on other apps.

I was able to use the primary partitions right, which was giving me problems. I finally learned how to partition right thanks to this forum.

Also, the install was so fresh, it took under and hour to rebuild it...so not really much wasted time.

I will leave fdisk for later and see how much I can mess up with it :).
