Problems with Arch and X

I just got my xf86Config configured.
From there I changed /etc/inittab to startx at boot.
changed the inittab as per the wiki at arch.
Now I get a login @ myhost. ( after a really long time.)
Its not the computer its a P3 laptop.
I login and it gives me a session menu?

I get stuck in X.
All I have is a console log for myhost and nothing else.

I've tried to use ctl alt f4 to get back to a login and bash prompt to fix this mess, but have been unable to. It hangs or crashes when I try.

How do I quit X?

Can I get to a bash prompt some other way?

I can always reinstall, I'm getting good at it.
