problems w/ copying from cd drives

since i have a large amount of mp3s burned on cd, i decided to try to copy them to my hard drive to listen to them more easily. this procedure seemed to work just fine for about 30 seconds, then an error message appears claiming "the file or directory /mnt/cdrom2/blah.mp3 does not exist." this happens both under the command line and using konqueror, but in both cases the file certainly exists, it just seems to get stopped from accessing it. this occurs only after ~40% of the cd has copied to hard drive. any suggestions as to a fix?

Anything fishy about the file name it gets stuck on? Is it getting stuck on the same file both ways?

there's no particular file name that it gets hung up on. it just screws up after transferring ~40% of a given cd and then claims that the next file that i specified to copy "does not exist". the same thing occurs for both of my cd drives, and i suspect it may be something funny w/ the drivers. the information on the cds is in VFAT format (mp3s burned before i started learning to use linux), and i have not tested if the same problem occurs for ext3 or ext2fs formatted cds.

You probably have a supermount problem. supermount allows one to access removable media without mounting / umounting. I suspect the problem is that supermount after a period of time is unmounting automatically.

Try disabling it and see if that fixes the problem. See man pages for supermount for correct syntax. Or just remove supermount from /etc/fstab for your CDROM drive.

BTW all CDs except for packetwriting (directCD) use some form of iso9660 format. Some form meaning extensions such as joliet. True for linux and windows.

thanks for the supermount advice. once i edited all the supermount lines in my /etc/fstab everything worked fine. the copying of cd info works fine now.
