Problems viewing ntfs partition as user.

Just installed Mandrake 9.1 and mounted my old XP ntfs partition, so far so good. But when I try to access the partition via the mount point I created it says File or directory doesnt exist even though when I chmod the mnt directory to allow acces to normal users I can see the mountpoint. When I try the same{accessing the drive} as root it works just fine. Ok so I thought I can somehow chmod the mountpoint to allow user access but the whole ntfs partition is mounted as read-only{even though in fstab it is rw} plus I think changing user access on files on that partition wouldnt solve my problem anyway. In addition to that, I have an icon sitting on my desktop leading to that partition, it says its unmounted but when I try to mount it it doesnt do anything.
the mount command in user mode says: /dev/hda1 on /mnt/win_c1 type ntfs (rw,noexec, nosuid, nodev) for that drive. Why cant I mount it or if it is mounted why cant I access it? Will please anyone help me? Thank you in advance.

I edited my /etc/fstab and added "umask=0222" for the NTFS drive. Now all users can read and execute, but not write. I'm not so sure about NTFS writing yet.

Use the search, mate ... this is being asked
on an almost daily basis. Enter "ntfs user mount"
as search term.
