Problems uninstalling suse 9.1 with WinXP install disk
 

I have an AMD Dual Opteron setup with two Samsung 160GB SATA drives not setup in RAID, though the motherboard has integrated RAID control.

I've done several searches here, and the results have basically all instructed me to reboot using the WinXP install CD, choose the recovery console, and go from there.

Problem: After choosing the "recovery console" from the WinXP setup screen, I get the error message, "setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure and hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any bla bla bla."

How can I successfully uninstall? I'm assuming this has something to do with how the partitions are setup? I let Suse 9.1 automatically setup the partitions during install, since I'm a newb.

In file manager, my home device list gives this info:

DVD
Hard Disc (hda2) [/] ..............contains /boot, /root, etc.
Hard Disc [sys] .............contains /block, /bus, /class, etc.

As superuser, the Yast2 partitioner gives this information about my hard drives:

I might be wrong, but I don't think this is a partition-related problem. If xp cd could see your partitions, it would probe for a xp installation on each one.
I guess its a raid setup issue. Isn't xp expecting to find raid configured, since you have the controller chip?

Being a NOOB, I honestly don't know the answer to your question. Was that rhetorical?


Just for clarification, I'd like to be putting WinXP on one drive and Suse on the other until I get really comfortable with Linux.

No, not rethorical. But I can't help you with that. It was just a suggestion.

Well, in this case, why don't you format the current suse partitions and reinstall it again? The next time, you ask yast2 to install it on the second disk.
