directory has permission, i really dont know what to do apart from re-install the whole distro.. i just cant understand how its managed to dissappear?

you could compile X yourself. Move the directory /usr/X11R6 to somewhere else for backup and install a new one into /usr/X11R6. Or get the pre-compiled binaries from XFree86. It should work.

Maybe there's something wrong with your HD?

ill give the binaries a go, dont think theres anything wrong with this hdd although it is majorly old
