Problems installing RH 7.2
I am attempting to install Redhat 7.2, but have been unable to install. I have 2 hard drives on machine. Used Partition Magic to Partition second Drive with Linux Partition and Swap Partition. Changed boot device to CD-Rom, installed installation CD and rebooted. Redhat started and I choose Graphical installed and selected enter. Started loading and came up with next screen showing a bunch of system information and an error. The Error <0> Kernal Panic: Attempted to Kill init.
What gives.. I'm a Linux Newbie and am installing Linux to learn it.. Any ideas.. |
what bootloader (grub or lilo).?
i also had problems with 7.2...here's what i did.. 1)booted and used linux rescue 2) chrooted to /mnt/syslinux 3) removed the initrd part on grub.conf and reboot voila...and upgraded the kernel, mkinitrd and returned the initrd part of grub.conf |
Thanks for the tip.. I also did a search on google and came up with a few answers. It seems it may be my motherboard that's giving me problems. It's a Abit KX7-333r, it seems that 7.2 has problems with the chipset. recommended that you upgrade the Kernel and few other fixes. I'm completely new to Linux, in fact I am installing it to support a Unix/Linux class I am taking. The version of Redhat I was installing was included with the text book. After doing some research I think I will make life easy on myself and purchase and install SuSe 8.1 pro. Cheaper than Redhat and the reviews were good. Thank again for replying..
