Problems installing Linksys wusb11 v2.5 on Redhat 9
 

Ok, I'm having problems installing the drivers for Linksys wusb11 v2.5 (80211b) on Redhat 9. I downloaded them, then went through the whole installation process, but I still couldn't connect. If anyone could give me some kind of simplified step by step installation method, I'd be really grateful.

What kernel are you using? Which drivers did you get? I have the WUSB11 card also and I'm using the drivers from http://atmelwlandriver.sourceforge.net

Do me an iwconfig and an ifconfig and post the results here.

Thats gonna be a pain, that means I have to go to Redhat, then write all that stuff down, then come back here to Windows.

Oh well, I guess I'm desperate. Be back in a few minutes.

And I know zip about Linux, I have been using Windows for 12 years (I'm only 16) and I'm just getting started with Redhat now so I have no idea what kernel Im using lol.

Kernel version is found using:
uname -r

What I found with the latest version of the atmel drivers (from the site I mentioned above) is that the device is now called atml0 by default, rather than the much more useful eth0, meaning a lot of startup scripts don't detect it. My way of rectifying this was to change the source code for the drivers (don't worry, it's only one word in one file) and then recompile the driver.

Umm, I did a help command and on top it said

GNU bash, version 2.05b.0(1)-release(i386-redhat-linux-gnu)

Is that the kernel?

No, that's the version of bash, the command interpreter (shell). The command for kernel version is in my last post. Did you get the output of the two commands? Or short version, from where did you get the drivers?

I got them from the linksys site a long while back (a few months ago.) I tried for over a week to install the drivers to no avail so I gave up. And when I typed those two commands, I got an error message that the command didnt exist. I'll go back now and type this new one for the kernel.

Instead, try downloading the drivers from the http://atmelwlandriver.sourceforge.net site. Find out your kerlel version though, if it's 2.6.x you'll need a patch (that they supply there). If you're using a 2.4.x kernel then just get the driver source from the site.

The kernel is 2.4.20-8
