problems installin 7.3
I've installed redhat 7.3 before with no problems. This time I installed the server version and when it boots up I only get the command line version and not the GUI (gnome or KDE).
What can I do to fix this? thank |
iirc, load the CD and reboot, select Upgrade, then select the GUI you want when asked.
BTW, that's a pretty old distro, you might want to consider getting hold of a more recent one, esp if it doesn't recognise the HW. Also, apart from fedoralegacy.org, you prob can't get updates/patches for it anymore. |
thanks
thanks m8. I have to use this version becuase it's want were developing on ugggggggggg

chrism01 help? didn't work
Hey my friend, I tried the upgrade and it never asked me what gui I wanted and I'm now back to doing a full install again. Isn't ther a way to edit a boot or config file?

That's quite confusing. [edit]I've merged them[/edit] |

If you definitely want a GUI, then edit the file
/etc/inittab and change this line: id:3:initdefault: change the 3 to a 5 and it will bring up a GUI if it can. To see if you have in fact got the SW installed, try: rpm -qa|grep -i gnome and rpm -qa|grep -i kde and see if it responds. |
finally got it :)
Thanks Guys. I just re-installed and was able to get the gui of my desire. I did go in and edit that file before that and it did work but needed a different OS anyway.
