problems getting drivers for pci fax modem
 
hi. i m currently working on fedora 6. i hav a internal fax modem with conexant chipset. I m not able to find suitable linux drivers for it... can any one please help me out???? also if the modem is detected then how can i know whether my modem is working or not? i mean is there any application in linux through which i can make a call from my pc?????

First, Fedora 6 is very, VERY old...the latest is version 11, I'd strongly suggest you download and install that. Aside from the greater variety of hardware supported, you'll be in a more 'current' OS, with better security, and more software support.

And since you have a 'Winmodem', I'd suggest http://www.linuxant.com. They product fax/modem drivers for Linux. Free versions are available, and a 'full' version (supports 56k and full faxing), is only $20.

As far as an application to 'make calls' (I'm assuming you mean a dialer), KPPP is one for the KDE desktop, along with some for Gnome, and wvdial for the command line.
