Problems burning Yarrow-i386-disc2
 

I've downloaded the three Yarrow-i386-cd ISO CD images... in prep for my first attempt at a LINUX install.

I matched the hashes against the published checksums and all 3 images looked fine.

I burned the 3 images to CD without any difficulty - no verification errors at this point.

When I started the Fedora install it prompted me to test my installation media - so (uncharacteristically cautious) I did - and the test indicated the 2nd CD was bad. 1st and 3rd were fine.

Now to sum up, I attempted (in no particular order) to download the cd2 image from other mirrors, re-verified the checksum, used a different BURNER on a different system, I'm using CD-R media that I've never had a problem with (from the same spindle that CD1 & CD2 came from), and I've varied burn speeds... but I still get the same error when I run the media test.

An attempt at installing despite the error gets about 75% of the way through and then reports that XSANE-0.91-1.i386 is missing/corrupt.
My next step will be to do a "custom" install and attempt to skip XSANE component when selecting packages.

BUT if anyone has any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong in burning this ISO image for cd2 I'd love to hear about them. I'm a Linux Newbie but I'm not a computer newbie. Am I just missing something obvious? Has anyone else had similar problems?

I have no idea what went wrong with Fedora ISOs .. I did have a problem with burning them too at one point and luckly I burned them on CD-RWs .. I've burned mine multipe times and found out that playing with the speed when you write the CD will work. I had it burned at 4x, 8x and 10x .. and I got varies results. If you've CD-RWs, use them to burn your ISOs.

i had the same prob with redhat linux but i jst didnt install the files that was broke or missing
like a background vieuwer dunno what didnt work was wrong and ruined my complete install
so i reinstalled and did custom and didnt install that file it workes fine now
TRy downloading froma a different mirror
like a mirror site closer to you maybe the file on that mirror site is wrong

Well I've confirmed it wasn't the ISO image - it seems to work fine (the install) if I use a virtual CD drive (i.e. mount the ISO image). Must be some issue with ... both my burners...

I had a similar problem.

ISOs checked out with md5sum. I had burned the ISO's originally at 48x (on 48x media), and got errors during mediacheck. I made new CDs at 24x on the same media, and everything worked fine. I would say, then, to burn the CDs at a slower speed, and try again...

This had occured to me as a troubleshooting variable so I tried at 2x (from an original 40x) and somewhere in between... probably 32x) on 48x media. No change (in fact, according to the installer - the data error was consistent between CD's - even with the use of different burners/speeds the same package(s) failed on install).

I'm mystified, but thanks for the suggestions.

i have the same problem... CD3 is ok... but the rest failed!

do i need to burn it DAO or TAO???.... i've been using TAO!!

i just got CD2 working so that makes 2 out of 3...
i just need disk one...

how should i burn it!??
i already wasted 17 CD-Rs and i'm going crazy,.... time consuming...
i have tried all kind of options with cdrecord....

I have exactly the same problem. Even I downloaded 2 more versions for CD2 from different mirrors too!

Also I made the CD drive read from the downloaded ISO file but same problem again!!

still hanging in the middle..can't proceed

A couple of months back i had the same problem with the redhat 9 isos. No matter how i did it, it always reported an error on cd2. I was trying to install under vmware in windows xp.

I solved it by disabling some caching options in the virtual machine bios, and no more problems. I don't recall exactly which options were as i have since deinstalled it, only that it had to do with caching and/or pipelining.

The same error ocurred after on an AMD platform, and again disabling some caching related options in bios solved the problem. This was at my work place.

Hello guys again,
I solved the problem or maybe I passed over it!

At first I tried to install the Fedora using vmware then I used Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 and ot installed the Fedora just fine.

Now I am much happier with Microsoft Virtual PC 2004.. I would recommend everyone to forget about Vmware.

Thanks - the last few posts about VMWare were very helpful - I don't think I mentioned I was trying to do this using VMware on XP but that's exactly where I've had the problem. I'll have a look at the virtual machine caching options and if I can get it working I'll post the results.

Hadn't heard about MS Virtual PC - I'll have a look at that too but need to get this working on VMware for compatibility with other systems.

Dear grayrc,
if things didn't go smoothly with Vmware, just tru MS Virtual PC 2004. The only thing I didn't like is when trying to install additional options to improve the display and mouse (like in Vmware) but in MS Virtual PC it try to install using setup.exe files which is not supported I assume in Linux OS.

I am new to the forum I have been a lurker for about 2 days now. I have playing around with linux for about a month now and i love it.

I been reading about fedora for sometime now and desided to installed it. Yesterday I downloaded these files:

yarrow-i386-disc1
yarrow-i386-disc2
yarrow-i386-disc3


The files are all winrar archives, the md5sum checks out fine so I unpacked the first one and burned it with nero no problems at all burned just fine.

I tried to boot from the cd but I will not boot.

Did i do something wrong?

Was i not supposed extract the files?

or did i burn the wrong thing let me know
