Problems Booting 2.6.0

Hi there amigos:

This is my first post here, but I've reading this forums for awhile now.

OK, here's my question. I've downloaded and compiled Linux Kernel 2.6.0 (from tarballs), everything went fine on installation, but, when it comes to boot the system up with the new Kernel, this thing gaves me a "kernel panic" about the VFS filesystem.

Before that, the kernel tries to reach my SATA 160gb disk (Windoze partition), as hde (the disk, after that it gaves me the kernel panic error "unable to mount filesystem on root=/"

I have compiled my Kernell with ext3 and ext2 filesystems as NATIVE and NOT MODULES.

I'm soooo lost, I've Grub as bootloader, well configured... please! help!!!

Thanks guys!

Have you updated /etc/fstab and/or the root= kernel parameter so that it points to actual devices instead of labels? also you probably can't use the initrd.
