Angry problems after 1st boot

i tried installing red hat 8.0 onto my hdd with 98 on it...the installation goes ok...until it boots up for the first time...the bootloader starts and then gives the option to boot into win or linux....neither works...linux gives a "crc error" message and then it also shows "system halted". and stops doing anything....i forgot what happens when trying to boot win98 because i gave up after a while and tried searching the net....still want linux on my computer....all help is greatly appreciated.....thanx

Did you make a linux rescue disk? Try booting from that and if linux runs it is most likely a boot loader problem.

Did you install redhat on a different partition? Try the boot disk and if that doesn't work you might have screwed something up in the partitioning process. Don't get discouraged yet, it can be fixed
