Problem with yum


hi

i have a prblem with yum as it is not working.i am using CentOS5
when i try to install anything using yum i am getting an error like this

# yum install vlc
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?releas...86&repo=addons error was
[Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (-2, 'Name or service not known')>
Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: addons

i am in proxy and i have update proxy settings in /etc/yum.conf

please help me what i need to do exactly
