I recently installed Ubuntu Studio 16.04.3 on a Dell Optiplex 755. I want to create some workspaces but I can't seem to do it. One suggestion I found was go to system settings: Appearance: Behavior. But the Behavior tab does not exist in my settings. Tried to install unity tweak tool but can't get it to launch. The Super key works in some instances but not all. There's also something called Dash but I can't figure out how to access it. I'm wondering if I have a corrupt installation or need to reinstall the desktop.

I notice you're running Mint. I've no idea if Ubuntu has the same sort of controls within its desktop but with Mint Cinnamon you just right click in the desktop switcher, bottom right in the panel, and add a new workspace from the pop up menu.
I'm running Mint Cinnamon. It's been a while since I did it, but right clicking on the panel at the bottom of the screen brings up a menu. One option is to add applets to the panel, and one applet is a workspace switcher.
Thanks for your responses. Sorry folks - I should have updated my profile, which I just did. I'm dual booting Mint and Ubuntu Studio, using Studio for doing audio recording. Switching workspaces in Mint works fine. Apparently it's a bit more complicated in Studio, at least for me.
First, right-click on the panel and add the work-space switcher if you don't have it already. If you only get one box, right-click on that and choose preferences.
You should be able to switch with the keyboard as well as with the mouse, using (if I remember rightly) Control Alt <left/right cursor>; I always replace that with Super (aka Windows) <cursor>. For moving the current program to another workspace, it requires Shift Control Alt <cursor>, which I replace with Super Home/End.
You can set the command with the keyboard shortcuts configuration tool. If that fails, then edit the configuration file. For Cinnamon or Mate, you need the configuration editor, which may need to be installed, because the file is not plain text. For Xfce (Ubuntu Studio), edit
~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-keyboard-shortcuts.xml
You may find (depending on version) that "move_window_left_key" doesn't work; if so, replace it with "move_window_prev_workspace_key". Similarly, you can substitute "next_workspace" for "right".
oh yeah three fingers to change the desktop, I thought I was missing something, sorry, I stay out of them kind of desktops, and use alt+x and/or a mouse type Desktops.
I remap those keys to be just Super left/right/up/down to do my migration and rely on my memory of my geography if I'm using 3x3. Typically I use 2x2 so if I mistake where I wanted to be, it's pretty fast to swap to where I intended to go.
David: Your suggestion worked. However, I am now seeing 4 boxes in the upper right corner and they are duplicates, i.e., two for each workspace I created. Any idea what's causing that?
